Participating NLUs in CLAT and its Seat Break-up

National Law Universities (NLUs) Participating through CLAT, No. of seats available with each NLU, Seat Break-up of NLUs, Courses offered by NLUs, etc will be explained in this article.

ABOUT CLAT-2016

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is an All India Entrance Examination conducted by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) on rotational basis which provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University for admission to their Undergraduate (LL.B) and Postgraduate (LL.M) degree programs.

CLAT-2016 will be conducted by  the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab for 2252 seats in U.G Program and 632 seats in PG Program. Here, in this article, we have mentioned about various NLUs which gives admissions only through CLAT scores and No. of seats available with all the NLUs and its break-up.

List of 17 National Law Universities (NLUs)

CLAT, started in 2008, is conducted by any one of the National Law University (NLU) in chronological order (in order of their year of establishment). In CLAT-2016, 17 NLUs will participate in admission process through CLAT. List of NLUs as well as total seats available with each NLU for U.G. Courses and its break up is given below :-

All 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) offer the following courses / programmes to the candidates qualified in CLAT examination for U.G. Courses.

  • B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)
  • B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.)
  • B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)
  • B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.)
  • B.S.W. LL.B. (Hons.)

Admission to the LL.M programme is only for those who have completed their LL.B degree.  The candidates are also advised to check the websites of respective Universities from time to time to keep themselves updated about the changes in the course structure and other details.

ABOUT CLAT-2016

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is an All India Entrance Examination conducted by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs), for admission to their Undergraduate (LL.B) and Postgraduate (LL.M) degree programs, on rotational basis which provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University.

CLAT-2016 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of CLAT 2016 provide an overview of the minimum requirement for applying and appearing in the law entrance exam. Thus, before filling the CLAT application form candidates must read the eligibility criteria of CLAT 2016 carefully that whether they are fulfilling the eligibility norms or not. The eligibility criteria for CLAT 2016 are given below:

1.  ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

  • For U.G Programme (LL.B Course)

⇒ The seventeen NLUs offer 5-year integrated Under-Graduate law courses leading to the award of a degree in Law as per their respective nomenclature.

⇒ The candidates must have completed 12th or its equivalent exam (students appearing for 12th can also apply) from the recognized board with minimum 45% marks (in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved / OBC / Specially Abled Persons) and 40% marks for SC / ST candidates.

⇒ Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination (12th or its equivalent exam) are also eligible for appearing in CLAT-2016 Exam. However, they shall be required to submit the proof of passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission in NLUs.

  • For P.G Programme (LL.M Course)

⇒ The candidates must have completed the LL.B or 5 year Integrated LL.B degree or its equivalent degree from a recognized university with minimum 55% marks (in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved / OBC / Specially Abled Persons) and 50% marks for SC/ST candidates.

⇒ Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination (LL.B / 5 year Integrated LL.B degree / its equivalent degree) are also eligible for appearing in CLAT-2016 Exam. However, they shall be required to submit the proof of passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission in NLUs.

2.  AGE CRITERIA

  • As per the recent judgement of honorable Supreme Court of India, there is No Upper Age Limit for appearing in CLAT (U.G. / P.G.) examination.  Therefore, any one irrespective of the age can apply for CLAT-2016.

NOTE: The candidates who are having Supplementary in the qualifying exam can also apply for CLAT, but they have to clear the Supplementary exam and have to submit the proof of passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission in NLUs.
